This part of ‘Anaconda’ turns out to be a fuss, it is neither able to make one laugh nor scare properly.

There is a scene in this film where a member of the team remaking it says, ‘There is a dearth of original stories these days’ and this fits perfectly with the number of reboots of Hollywood classic films these days. For quite some time now, there has been a flurry of remakes and sequels of old hit and classic Hollywood films, which are not able to do justice to the stature of their original films. Director Tom Gormican’s ‘Anaconda’ is also a new name in this line. This comic remake of the famous 2017 horror film ‘Anaconda’ is neither able to laugh nor scare properly.

Story of ‘Anaconda’ movie

The film is a meta reboot of the old ‘Anaconda’, where four childhood friends who are die-hard fans of the film, Doug (Paul Rudd), Griff (Jack Black), Claire (Thandiwe Newton) and Kenny (Steve Jahn) decide to reboot the film in their own way. Unhappy with their lives, these four go on an exciting journey to shoot with anacondas in the Amazon forests, where they come face to face with the real anaconda. In such a situation, one has to watch the film to know how they save their lives from this giant creature.

Review of ‘Anaconda’ movie

However, this story written by Tom Gormican and Kevin Atten remains quite simple. Initially, with the entry of Anna (Daniela Melchior), an illegal gold smuggler, there is hope that some interesting plot twists and breath-taking scenes will be seen but alas, that does not happen. Firstly, there are less scenes of encounter with anaconda in the film, then even those that are there do not create any fear. Only a few comedy scenes are decent, while many scenes including the climax are quite childish. Tom’s direction is also a bit loose. Actors’ acting saves a little respect. Paul Rudd, Jack Black, Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniella Melchior and Selton Mello all try their best to make the audience laugh, but due to poor writing, they too fail to make much of an impact. Talking about visual appeal, some of the jungle scenes are attractive, while the VFX does not seem to be at Hollywood level. Overall, this film disappoints by following the idiom of big name and small audience.
