The Ba**ds of Bollywood Review: Shahrukh Khan’s son has finally entered the world of Bollywood. Instead of following his father’s path, he has adopted the path of direction and his first web series is available for streaming on Netflix. Let us know whether you should watch or skip this series.

what is the story

Aryan Khan’s directional debut series ‘The Ba**ds of Bollywood’ tells the story of an outsider who sets out to make a name for himself in the glitter and glamor of the industry. In the first episode, Aasmaan Singh (Lakshya Lalwani) enters with a dangerous stunt, in which he himself is the hero. That stunt and the film make him a star overnight and his very first film does a business of Rs 100 crore. But in real life, Sky is still struggling. He lives with his uncle Avtar Singh (Manoj Pahwa), who has never been successful himself.

The story progresses amid Bollywood politics, nepotism, cameos and taunts. From Karan Johar to Ranveer Singh and Bobby Deol, many stars are seen making fun of themselves. Besides, the show also featured big Bollywood producers and issues like drug cases.

How is the series?

The first episode is full of energy and cameos. It continues to move at a fast pace, with personal drama, Bollywood jokes and even light comic moments. Yes, for viewers who are not much into filmy gossips, some parts may be a bit confusing. Many scenes in the show are quite interesting but the VFX could have been a little better.

How is the acting?

Lakshya Lalwani (Aasmaan Singh) has played the role of the outsider hero honestly, although if the character had been written a little better, he could have done an even better job. Raghav Juyal (Parvez) is playing the role of Aasmaan’s friend, his role is good but it is a bit incomplete at many places. Anya Singh is playing the role of Aasmaan Singh’s sensible manager in the series, but her character can be seen being ignored again and again. Manoj Pahwa looks the funniest and most real in the role of Aasmaan Singh’s uncle. Bobby Deol (Ajay Talwar) has done a good job but the superstar effect is not that deep.

How is the direction?

Aryan Khan has shown a lot of confidence despite his debut. He has tried to make fun of Bollywood’s parties, contracts and nepotism. The show is fast paced and the settings look great. But the biggest shortcoming is the tonal balance, at times the show seems to be just glossy masala, touching deeper issues and moving ahead, there is not much being talked about.

final review

The Ba**ds of Bollywood is an energetic debut, full of gossip, cameos and inside jokes. It will delight the viewers who follow Bollywood news and controversies closely. But the general audience will find it to have less depth and more shine. This series gets – 3 stars from Filmibeat Hindi.
