Thamma Movie review: Maddock Films and director Aditya Sarpotdar’s ‘Thama’ is what audiences expect from a big screen entertainment, a perfect combination of fantasy, folklore, comedy and horror. With Thama, Maddock takes his horror-comedy universe to a whole new level.
what is the story
If ‘Stree’ gave a feeling of fear and the wolf gave a social message in the jungle world, then Thaama presents a new, unique story combining love and fear. The story begins in a mysterious forest, where the shadows of the past still linger and the old guard has begun to reawaken.
Like normal horror films, there is not just fear here, this is a story of love, courage and the efforts made to protect loved ones. The balance of comedy and emotion in the film is very beautiful, sometimes funny, sometimes heart touching, but it is never too dramatic. Instead of heavy drama, the film leaves you with an emotion that lingers long after you leave the theater.
how is the acting
Ayushmann Khurrana plays the character of a small-town journalist whose life changes when he unknowingly gets entangled in a world of supernatural occurrences. In the beginning, his character is light-hearted and friendly, but as the story progresses, his character starts gaining depth.
Rashmika Mandanna has brought honesty and emotional strength to her character. She does not look like the typical over-the-top heroine of horror-comedy films, her acting looks genuine.
special moment of the film
The film also features a powerful confrontation between Alok and Bhediya (Varun Dhawan), a moment that foreshadows a bigger expansion of the Maddock horror-comedy universe to come.
how is the movie
The VFX of the film are superb and maintain the same high visual standards that the production house is known for. The writing is especially worthy of praise. Because of which people remain constantly interested to know how all these characters are connected to each other.
All the actors of the film do complete justice to their respective characters. Everyone brings a glimpse of their own identity and personality to their character. Paresh Rawal’s comic timing is unmatched, his scenes will make the audience laugh a lot. As always, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been seen as a strong performer, who grabs attention every time he appears on screen. Nora Fatehi’s cameo adds a new dimension to the story. Sathyaraj returns as Elvis, an aloof and eccentric paranormal expert affectionately known as the Hand of God. In a crucial scene, Elvis hints at a connection between Alok’s new form, Betal, and the wolf. There are many cleverly placed Easter eggs in Thaama that keep the audience on their toes, the most favorite surprise of which is the return of the popular character ‘Sarkata’ from Stree 2.
final review
Before the release, three item songs and some other tracks of the film had created a lot of buzz, but Thama is not limited to just songs. Every song adds meaning to the story. The film gives a new twist to the Bollywood horror-comedy genre, and ends on a note that is both satisfying and leaves everyone excited for the next chapter. Thaama is a real treat for fans of the Maddock horror-comedy universe, promising an even bigger, bolder and more exciting expansion of that universe. This film gets four stars from Filmibeat Hindi.
