Sarzameen Movie Review: Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kajol and Ibrahim Ali Khan starrer film ‘Sarzameen’ has been released today i.e. on 25th July. This film is a film full of patriotic fervour. This movie is streaming on Jio Hotstar but should you watch or skip this movie, let us know in this review.

What is the story of the film?

The story of ‘Sarzameen’ revolves around Vijay Menon (Prithviraj Sukumaran), a senior Indian Army officer, who is performing his duty in the sensitive situation of Kashmir. But a storm comes in his life when he meets Harman aka Harris (Ibrahim Ali Khan), who is burdened with his true identity and deception.

There is a tinge of mystery and a lot of emotion in the story when Mehar (Kajol) enters. Meher is a character who looks calm, but there are secrets hidden in her past which give a new twist to the whole story.

This film is not a war story, but the story of the human fight going on within the war. In which layers of loyalty, family, identity and pain are revealed.

How is the movie?

Sarzameen is a film full of deep thoughts and emotions. It’s not just action, but it also has layers of heart-touching relationships. The film takes patriotism and personal issues together in a very balanced manner.

The film shows stasis and reality instead of extreme drama. Many scenes make you think and the film progresses like a well-planned script. However, the first part of the film seems a bit slow and you can already guess some of the twists.

How is the acting?

Prithviraj Sukumaran has done wonders in the role of a responsible and internally broken soldier. There is emotion in his eyes and there is a pause on his face which clearly shows the helplessness of a senior soldier.

Kajol is the life of this film. Her role as Meher is full of mystery, but as the film progresses, her secrets start getting revealed. She emerges as a strong woman, who has strengthened herself by suppressing her pain.

Ibrahim Ali Khan looks serious in his role. This role must have been challenging for him but he has tried to play it with honesty. There seems to be some lack in some emotional scenes.

how is the direction

Kayoj Irani’s direction is mature and under control. He did not allow the film to become overdramatic. Every scene was given enough space so that the audience could feel the characters.

The cinematography is superb – especially the valleys of Kashmir and the military setup. The background music goes well with the mood of the film – neither too loud, nor too light. The action sequences are also necessary and look real. The editing could have been a little tighter, especially in the first half.

final review

‘Sarzameen’ is a film which touches your heart and forces you to think. This is not just the story of a soldier, but the story of a father, a friend and a human being. The biggest strength of the film is its characters – Prithviraj’s balanced acting, Kajol’s strong presence and Ibrahim’s acting make it special. However, it has some shortcomings, such as a slow start and a predictable story. If you want to see an effective combination of patriotism, emotion and drama, then you can add ‘Sarzameen’ to your watchlist this weekend.
