Maa Movie Review: After spreading her magic in last year’s film ‘Do Patti’, Kajol is back once again. With a new color and splendor. This time Kajol has become a ‘mother’ whose daughter’s life is in danger. But should you watch or skip this film, let us find out in this review.
What is the story?
The story of the film begins in a village named Chanderpur, where twins are born in a house. A boy who is named Shubhankar and a girl who is sacrificed due to a curse. After this the story is shown 40 years later. Now Shubhankar has a family, his wife’s name is Ambika and they both have a 12 year old daughter, Shweta. But Shubhankar has hidden the fact that he has a daughter from his family… because daughters are sacrificed in his family, so to save his daughter’s life, he tells his villagers that he has a son.
Suddenly Shubhankar’s father dies and he reaches the village to see his father for the last time and tells the village head that he wants to sell his ancestral house. Saying this, he is returning to his wife and daughter when the cursed tree of that village takes his life. Now the village head of Chanderpur calls Shubhankar’s wife Ambika and his daughter Shweta to the village so that the ancestral house of the village can be sold as soon as possible. But as soon as Ambika and her daughter step into the village, the terror of the cursed tree begins, which is not just a tree… but a monster. Who wants to take his lineage forward in any circumstances and only Shubhankar and Ambika’s daughter Shweta can take his lineage forward. But Ambika wants to save her daughter from the clutches of this demon and now you will have to watch the film to see how she will save her daughter.
how is the movie
You may find the first part of the film Maa a bit long. But when Ambika and Shweta reach Chanderpur, the story actually seems to be moving forward. VFX has been used extensively in the film. But the biggest minus point of this film is its VFX because it looks fake at many places. The screenplay is quite good and every effort has been made to make it haunting. It may scare you a little till the first half… but as soon as you understand the story, your fear will also reduce.
The angle of Kali Maa has been taken in the film and she has been linked to the demon named Raktabeej, which you may find interesting. The best thing about this movie is that from the trailer you can get some idea of the storyline of the movie but the whole movie is much more than the trailer. However, a little more horror could have been added to the film.
how is the acting
Indranil Sengupta has played the role of Shubhankar in the film, his role is small but he has done a good job. The film also stars Ronit Roy, who is seen overshadowing Kajol in many scenes. Kajol has also shown her good work in this film. Like every time, this time too she was seen engrossed in her character and in the role of a mother, she was also seen getting personal at many places.
final review
If you are a fan of Kajol then you must watch this film. Not only this, you will have to watch this film to see what an amazing actor Ronit Roy is.
