Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan Movie Review: When the trailer of the film ‘Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan’ based on the story ‘The Eyes Have It’ by famous writer Ruskin Bond was released, the audience had high expectations from it. The pairing of Vikrant Massey and Shanaya Kapoor was very good in the trailer and people felt that they will get to see a simple romantic film. So should you watch or skip this film? Let us find out in this review.
what is the story
The story of the film revolves around two strangers – Jahaan and Saba – who meet in a train compartment. Jahaan is a musician who cannot see. Whereas Saba is a theater artiste who blindfolds herself to play the role of a blind person. Both of them travel towards Mussoorie, where during the conversation their closeness grows. But suddenly Jahaan leaves Saba without telling anything. The film slows down from here and then the story is not able to hold the grip which was visible in the beginning.
how is the movie
The film has been directed by Santosh Singh, who has previously made web series like ‘Broken But Beautiful’. But it seems that this time he failed to convey the depth of the story on screen. The first half hour of the film seems quite exciting, but after that the film slowly starts falling apart. You will get an idea of the climax while watching the film. There is no surprising element in this film.
There was a lack of logic at many places in the film. For example, Saba has blindfolded herself, but she does not realize that Jahaan is walking with the help of a stick. In a song, she dances with her walking stick, but she does not know why this walking stick is being used.
how is the acting
Vikrant Massey always impresses with his acting, but here he could not fit completely into the role of a blind man. In some scenes he is seen looking directly at the camera. This is Shanaya Kapoor’s first film and she has done a decent job in some scenes, but as soon as the blindfold is removed from her eyes, her expressions start appearing hollow. You may also feel the lack of romantic chemistry between the two actors.
final review
‘Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan’ is a film which gives a lot of expectations in the beginning, but seems incomplete in the end. The story had power, but it was not presented properly on screen. If you are fond of romantic dramas and want to see something different, then it can be watched once, but it would be better if you do not expect much from this film. This film gets 2 stars from Filmibeat Hindi.
