Solo is perhaps the greatest tragedy of the Disney Star Wars era, as a perfectly fine spin-off was overshadowed in a packed cinema season. Creating a portrayal of Han Solo that can match Ford is no easy task, yet Alden Ehrenreich is perfect at capturing the smuggler in his early days. Han is still bright-eyed, but trying to put up the tough, composed front he has, yet a tale full of twists, turns, and tragic love leads into an ending that feels like a good lead-into who he would be, yet still leaves you wanting more. The expanded universe has thankfully taken the groundwork laid by this movie and ensured proper payoff for its new characters, but it will be a shame if we never see Alden’s Han or Donald’s Lando on screen ever again.
