The Fantastic Four: First Steps Movie Review: Marvel Studios’ latest film ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ has finally been released. This film is the 37th installment of the MCU and tries to give new life to the famous superhero team. The audience had liked the earlier version, so this time the expectations were even higher. So the question is – did this film live up to the expectations? The answer is a bit mixed.
what is the story
The story of the film takes us to 1960s New York. The old era there has been shown in a different style. This time director Matt Shakman has focused more on the emotions and relationships of the characters instead of CGI.
Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) – all four acquire strange powers during a space mission. After this they become the ‘Fantastic Four’.
The most special thing about the story is the emotional touch it has. While Reed is a genius but can’t express his feelings properly, Sue keeps the team together. Johnny looks fun from outside but feels lonely from inside. And Ben’s entire body changes – he turns into a stone-looking person.
How powerful is the climax?
This time the big villain is the Silver Surfer who puts the whole world in danger. Things get interesting when Reed and Sue have to make a big decision between saving their baby and saving the world. These emotional scenes are the life of the film.
But the speed or pacing of the film is a bit messed up. In between, the story seems to drag and at some places there is a feeling of boredom. The last part sees a great mix of action and emotion – which includes scenes like a delivery scene in zero gravity and a sacrifice for the universe. But still the film does not captivate you completely.
Galactus, who is the main villain of the film, did not seem that effective and could not create much explosion.
How was the acting?
All four lead actors played their roles well. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn had great chemistry. But Vanessa Kirby shines the most, who won everyone’s hearts in the climax. Julia Garner played the role of Silver Surfer and her work was also quite attention-grabbing.
final review
‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ is a little different from other Marvel films. It not only has explosive action but also heart touching moments. This film gives a new experience to the fans but having too many expectations can be a bit risky. If you want to watch an emotional superhero drama then you can watch it once. The film is a good addition to the Marvel Universe, but is still a few steps away from perfect. This film gets 3 stars from Filmibeat Hindi.
